SamyQuote · Free tool, under development

Calculate a manufacturing estimate for your part.

You upload the geometry, choose the material and finish, and in less than a minute you have the printing time, how many parts fit in the build plate and what each one costs.

We built it using the same process parameters we use for manufacturing. It's not a simple calculation: it's what a company that developed the entire machine knows.

This is an indicative estimate, not a binding offer or quote. SamyQuote is currently a free tool under development: there are no registration fees, plans, or subscription costs.

01 The engine is running.

Watch it work before you use it.

This is the actual calculation, in the same order in which it occurs: it reads the geometry, slices it layer by layer, places it in the build plate, and removes the cost estimate.

Four example parts, actually rotating. Yours will take the same amount of time.

  • The cost per part, with its breakdown
  • Full breakdown, so you can see where every euro comes from
  • Designed for you to quote parts to your own customers

Estimates are based on assumptions that are always kept in mind. They are for guidance only: they are not an offer and do not replace process validation.

What you see is the actual calculation, in the same order: geometry, slicing, build plate layout, and cost estimate. The examples are illustrative and are pending engineering validation.
02 TRY IT WITH YOUR PART

Upload your STL file and check the number.

The above is a demonstration with one of our parts. This is with yours: drag an STL file and in a second you'll have volume, build height, layers, how many fit on the build plate, and a cost range.

This is an estimate, not a formal offer. It's meant to give you an idea of the price range for your part and whether it's worth pursuing. For a proper quote, please provide your contact information and details of the part: a Samylabs technician will calculate the price using SamyStudio, with the actual parameters, and will contact you to arrange shipping.

This estimate is worked out in your browser. Your own computer reads the file and the number appears right here: nothing is uploaded to see it. You can disconnect from the internet as soon as the page loads and it will keep working. When you ask for a quote you will send us the part —without looking at the geometry no number is confirmed— and then you accept the confidentiality terms: they are written further down.

Drop your STL here or click to choose it · up to 120 MB
What you are going to see
  • Real volume of material, not of the bounding box
  • Which axis it is best stood on and how tall it is
  • How many layers and how many parts fit on one build plate
  • Time for the full build plate and for a single part
  • Cost broken down into powder, machine and post-processing
  • And a warning if it does not fit in the machine you choose

Drag an STL over there. It takes less than a second and nothing is uploaded.

03 The full tour · coming soon

Try it from beginning to end.

Above you have the quick calculation, which is an approximation. What you see here is a demonstration, not a live service: it's the complete process as it's intended to work—you fill out the request, upload the part, it's analyzed in front of you, and you leave with a cost slip—so you can test it before building it.

Today's demonstration is just that: everything happens in your browser, and neither the form nor the file is sent anywhere. When you're online, it will work the same way until the very last step, because when you request a quote, the part and your data do indeed reach Samylabs.

This is a demonstration and there is nothing behind it yet. The form, the file and the calculation stay in your browser: nothing is sent to any server here. In the connected version it will work the same right up to the last step: when you ask for the quote, the part and your details reach Samylabs with the confidentiality terms accepted.

04 What gives you back

The numbers that determine a project.

Not just a single figure. The full breakdown, with the stated assumptions, so you can defend it to your finance director or attach it to your own proposal.

Build time

Hours of laser cutting, coating, heating, and cooling, separated. The figure that almost everyone leaves out is the cooling time, and in solid parts, it makes a difference.

Build plate utilization

How many parts fit in the ALBA 300 and ALBA 500 with that geometry and orientation? The cost per part changes completely depending on this.

Powder consumption

The mass of the part, the mass of the supports, and the actual powder lost, not the theoretical amount. We need your supplier's price if you provide it.

Cost Breakdown

Powder, process gas, energy, machine depreciation, labor, and post-processing. Each line item has its assumption visible and editable.

Honest comparison

What would that same part cost machined or cast, with its tooling and minimum order quantity? Sometimes the result is that it's not worth printing, and we say so.

Guidance and support

Which orientation reduces time, which reduces support, and why are they almost never the same? With the warning about overhangs that will cause problems.

05 How it works

Four steps, one minute.

01 · Geometry

You upload an STL file. Your browser reads the file, so it's not uploaded anywhere for calculations.

  • STLUp to 120 MB
  • STEP and 3MFExpected, not yet

02 · The material and the finish

You choose the alloy, layer thickness and what finish you need: raw, shot blasted, machined on the functional faces or ready to assemble.

  • A316LStainless steel
  • C300Tool steel
  • Ni718Nickel-chromium
  • AlSi10MgAluminium
  • Ti6Al4VTitanium
  • CoCrCobalt-chromium
  • GRCop-42Copper, the latest addition

03 · The calculation

The engine orients the part, places it in the build plate of each machine, estimates the laser time per layer, and applies the costs. It takes a second, because your own computer does it.

  • real nestingNot a division of volumes
  • Own process parametersThe same ones we use to manufacture

04 · The record

You get the full breakdown with its assumptions and date, to attach to your own offer or to discuss with us.

  • Breakdown with the stated assumptions

What's wrong with your part?

It's best to tell the whole story, because there are two different moments and the file only leaves your computer in one of them.

1. The estimate for this page

It is worked out in your browser. Your own computer reads the STL, the number appears here and nothing is uploaded. You can disconnect from the internet as soon as the page loads and it will keep working just the same.

2. When you request the offer

That is when your details and the calculation sheet reach us: the measurements, the material, the machine and the figures you have seen. We ask you for the file in our reply, because a firm offer is not confirmed without looking at the geometry, but nobody has to upload a geometry before deciding to. When you send it, these conditions apply, and these three only:

It is not shared with third parties. Nor is it uploaded to an external cloud. Your geometry does not leave Samylabs.

It is used to prepare and validate your offer. Which is why you send it to us.

And for our own technical work, always confidentially: simulation, fault detection, improving our machines and improving the algorithms a quote is calculated with. Learning from the parts that pass through here is part of the next figure being better than this one.

If you prefer not to send anything, the calculation above still applies: it gives the same estimate and the file doesn't move from your computer.

07 And after the number

Price is the beginning, not the end.

An estimate helps in making a decision. Once the decision is made, the next step is to ship the part—and you don't need to buy any machines for that.

The form with all the necessary information—geometry, material, which faces are functional, and the deadline—is located at print your part. If you've never ordered a printed part before, the complete list is available at how to order a part without making a mistake.

And if you prefer to see it before committing, at the open days you can bring the part and see it made.

If what you want is the machine

The quoting tool also answers the other question: how many units per year would be needed for buying a machine to be cost-effective. The method is under buy machine or buy service, and the machines are under machines.

08 Questions

What you're going to ask us.

What is the margin of error in the numbers?
With calibrated alloys and geometries within the standard window, build time falls within a narrow range, while cost is somewhat wider, because it depends on assumptions you control: the price you pay for the powder, your electricity rate, and how you amortize the machine. All these assumptions are transparent and you can change them.
Can I use it to quote parts to my clients?
That's what it's designed for. What we ask is that you don't present an estimate as if it were a fixed price from us: the breakdown includes the stated assumptions precisely so that the conversation is honest.
How much does it cost to use it?
Nothing. SamyQuote is currently a free tool under development: there are no sign-up fees, plans, or subscriptions. If a full version with a commercial offering is ever released, it will be announced, along with the pricing.
What happens to my files?
It depends on the time. The page estimate is calculated in your browser and doesn't upload anything. When you request a quote, you do send us the part, because a firm quote isn't confirmed without reviewing the geometry. From that point on, it's not shared with third parties or uploaded to an external cloud; it's used to prepare and validate your quote, and also internally and confidentially for our technical work. This is fully explained in "What happens to your part," above.
Is this an offer?
No, and it's important to clarify this: it's an approximate estimate, calculated using our process parameters based on your geometry. The final figure comes from the rolling mill with the actual parameters and is confirmed by a Samylabs representative.
Does this replace talking to an engineer?
No, and it's not meant to be. It replaces the three weeks it currently takes to arrive at a rough estimate. When that estimate makes sense, the conversation with us starts much further along than it otherwise would.
